Warrington have confirmed that Swinton winger Matty Ashton will join them for 2020 for an undisclosed fee.

Ashton, 21, is the Championship’s leading try scorer with this season with 23 tries in 22 games and has penned a two-year deal.

Coach Steve Price said: “Matty has been a consistent player throughout his first year in the Championship.

“He’s certainly got some wheels on him and knows his way to the try line.

“He’s a great young player with a lot of potential but he still has a lot to learn about the game. We’re confident we can turn him into a quality Super League player.”

Ashton has never been in a Super League club system, coming through the ranks at amateur side Rochdale Mayfield and playing in Australia with Mullumbimby Giants.

He said: “It’s a dream come true to be able to get the chance to play full-time rugby league. Warrington is a massive club and I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity.

“I’m looking forward to building myself up both as a player and as a person. I can’t wait to get stuck into training and meet the lads.”
