Warrington confirm release of half-back ahead of transfer deadline

Warrington Wolves have confirmed that Marc Sneyd has been released with immediate effect – freeing him up to make a move elsewhere before this month’s transfer deadline.

Clubs have until August 21 to be able to adjust their squad before the business end of the season, and Warrington have decided to part company with one of their senior players early.

Sneyd had already agreed a deal to join Salford RLFC next season in what will be a huge boost for the ambitious Championship club.

But he may now land a short-term deal elsewhere for the rest of 2026 after Warrington confirmed his early exit.

The Wire said: “Warrington Wolves can confirm Marc Sneyd has been granted an early release from his contract. The halfback has made 36 appearances for the Wire, scoring twice, and claimed the third Lance Todd Trophy of his career in the 2025 Challenge Cup final. We’d like to thank Sneydy for all his contributions to the club and wish him well in his new chapter.”

George Williams made a successful and winning return for Warrington on Thursday night, with the England captain now back fully fit after an injury that has kept him sidelined for several months.

The Wolves have been playing Ewan Irwin and Leon Hayes in the halves during that time, and with Williams available again, it effectively means Sneyd was reduced to fourth-choice in the pecking order for the Wolves.

That has led to both parties coming to a mutual agreement over an early release, with Sneyd moving on earlier than expected and possibly signing a new contract somewhere else on a short-term basis.
