Warrington boss provides update on injured skipper & James Harrison set for debut

Warrington head coach Daryl Powell has provided the latest on injured skipper Jack Hughes, while James Harrison is set to make his first appearance for the club.

Hughes, 30, dislocated his shoulder during the club’s Easter Monday defeat to Hull at the MKM Stadium. Powell has shared that his off-contract captain is still a few weeks away from returning to action for the side.

“He’s had a few setbacks,” Powell said. “The shoulder injury against Hull, that was a bad injury. He’s had a little bit of an issue with the wrist that he had an operation on earlier in the year, too. But it’s the shoulder injury that’s keeping him out. 

“He’s probably five to six weeks away. He’s getting there and he’s starting to get out on the field a little bit and getting moving, but he’s still five to six weeks away.”

James Harrison set to debut

Forward Harrison is set to make his debut on Friday night against Hull at the Halliwell Jones Stadium. The 26-year-old made the move ahead of the current season from Featherstone, but suffered an ACL injury during the 2021 campaign for Rovers.

He made his return to the field earlier this month for the club’s Reserves side, and is in line to make his first team debut against Hull.

“He’ll play,” Powell confirmed in his pre-match press conference.

“He was really impressive for the reserves, with how hard he works, his skillset and how committed he is. I really like him as a player. He has tasted Super League before, but obviously it’s his first time with us. 

“He’s worked super hard to get himself to this position. He’s in great shape I’m looking forward to seeing him play.”

Kyle Amor has not been included in Warrington’s 21-man squad due to injury. Powell confirmed that he is expected to miss between one-to-two weeks.
