Warrington 10-24 Hull FC

Kirk Yeaman scored two tries to win 24-10 away to Warrington for Hull FC, completing a perfect Easter for the Airlie Birds.

Yeaman’s tries came just at the end of each half, and were significant in securing the win for the black and whites.

Joel Monaghan opened the scoring for Warrington inside the first ten minutes. Lee Briers’ pass found Ben Westwood, who juggled with the ball before offloading to Brett Hodgson, who set up Monaghan with his 11th try of the season.

On the quarter hour mark Rhys Williams extended the Wolves’ lead scoring in the corner in a try that mirrored Monaghan’s earlier in the game.

But then the momentum of the game changed as Hull FC began to fight back. Danny Houghton was able to collect a risky offload from his own dummy half, who had scooted forward, and touched down to claim his first try of the year in the black and white.

And with ten minutes to go until half time Hull took the lead after some poor defending from the Wolves let Kirk Yeaman dive in for his first try of the game. Yeaman acted in the dummy half position, and after avoiding the two markers in Briers and King, was able to get his body low enough to evade the tacklers on the Wolves’ try line.

It took 23 minutes of the second half until more scores were put on the board. Both teams blew chances in the third quarter of the game, with the best chance falling to Paul Wood who knocked on over the line to the dismay of the Warrington crowd.

However after one forced pass too many from the Wolves, Will Sharp plucked the ball out of mid air after David Solomona juggled the pass with the Wolves having the run of play. Sharp had all the speed in the world and was able to score under the posts, giving his side an eight point lead.

The wolves started to panic, they kept forcing passes and kept knocking on short of the try line. It wasn’t Morley’s offload found Mark O’Meley, and Richard Horne set up Yeaman to score his second try of the game, that the home side were finally put out of their misery.
