Joe Wardle wants Huddersfield Giants to build on their first win of the season when they come up against Catalans Dragons this weekend.

The 24 year-old played in his first game of the season against Hull Kingston Rovers last weekend, in which the Giants ran out winners in a comfortable 38-6 victory at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Wardle has already expressed his delight at being able to get back onto the field and was quick to thank the medical team at the club for his recovery.

“The rehab team have done a really good job on it and I think that myself and Woody have come back flying,” Wardle told Huddersfield’s official website.

“We are both feeling fitter, faster and stronger than we have ever been and everything has gone well, so fingers crossed for the season.

“Ollie Waite has done a fantastic job with us all and I know that Craig Huby is doing well at the minute, so it will be good to see when he is back and we are pushing on as a team and hopefully we get another win this weekend.”

Wardle also has put a big emphasis on the need to get the Giants season truly up and running with another win this weekend against the Dragons.

“We have got to build on last weekend and put in a big performance against Catalans,” he said.

“We are not getting carried away with the weekend’s win, it was a tough start to the game and it was probably a bit nervy from both teams but once we got into the game I thought we settled well and have just got to keep building on that now.”

“Catalans have a tough pack but I thought at the weekend our pack was outstanding, especially Sam Rapira, Eorl and Josh Johnson – they all did really well. We have got to go again on Sunday and make sure we take it to Catalans at the John Smith’s Stadium.”
