Wane: We were ugly

Wigan coach Shaun Wane described his team’s performance as ugly against Huddersfield but that they did enough to win.

The Warriors defeated the Giants 18-13 but needed a late try to Josh Charnley to wrap the game up.

“Ugly, we weren’t at our best,” Wane told Sky TV post-match.

“But we did enough to win. All credit to Huddersfield. They put it out about all the injuries they’ve got and they responded. All the lads responded, the young kids, and they put us under pressure.

“We weren’t at our best. We didn’t attack well but we still scored 18 points. So two points was the key. Well done to Paul, he really rallied his troops.”

Wane said his team will need to improve ahead of the World Club Series against the Brisbane Broncos.

“We’ll have a tough week,” he said.

“The players are very honest. I love working with these players. They’re my mates but they all buy inot what we’re trying to do.

“The rucks were really slow again, which we need to fix because we’re not getting any help from anyone else. So we have to make sure we fix that this week before we play Brisbane.”
