Wane questions referee calls

Wigan coach Shaun Wane has questioned some of Joe Cobb’s key decisions in last night’s loss to Castleford.

The Tigers prevailed 36-22 at the Jungle.

A late try to Ryan Hampshire, who appeared to knock the ball on over the line, killed off Wigan’s chances.

Wane said if there was a video referee he would have “definitely” ruled Hampshire’s effort out.

“No question,” he said.

“But at the end of the day, they scored more points so I’ll take it on the chin and move on.

“I don’t want to take away from what Cas did, they played with a lot of enthusiasm and we didn’t deal with it well.”

Stand-in captain Sam Tomkins had a running battle with Cobb all game, with the referee preventing the fullback from speaking to him.

“He got told in the first-half he couldn’t speak to him,” Wane said.

“He was asking respectful questions, he was captain. So I’m at a loss there. I don’t want to make any excuses, but… it’s crazy, I don’t get it.”

Wigan lost Dom Manfredi to injury in the first half after a heavy shot from Rangi Chase.

Manfredi went off with a head knock and Wane revealed he has also injured his ACL.
