Wane praises Bentham after Wigan’s Magic Weekend win

Wigan coach Shaun Wane has praised referee Phil Bentham, after the Warriors’ Magic Weekend victory over Leeds.

TV footage at the game appeared to show Wane questioning the referee’s neutrality, but Wane insists that he has no issues with Bentham at all.

“I think Phil Bentham is the best referee in the comp,” he told reporters after the game.

“I thought he was great today. I thought there were lots of times where he could have blown up for things and didn’t.

“He let the game flow, and that’s exactly what Steve McNamara wants. He wants end to end, and arm wrestles.

“I thought Phil Bentham was fantastic.”

As for the TV footage, Wane maintains that he cannot remember what he says during a game once the final whistle goes.

“I watch the game, and I’m focused on the game,” he insisted.

“What I say, I wouldn’t have a clue. Phil Bentham was fantastic today.”
