Wigan head coach Shaun Wane was delighted with the way his team bounced back from their World Club Challenge defeat to open their Super League account at the weekend.

The Warriors defeated Wakefield 46-24 on Sunday to record their first win of the season, after suffering a home defeat to Huddersfield before their trip Down Under where they were beaten by Sydney Roosters.

Just nine of the players that featured against the Roosters were retained in the line-up for Sunday’s game, but Wigan, who were the strong Betfair favourites to win, still ran in nine tries.

Wane said: “It was always going to be a tricky one for us. We haven’t spent much time on the field this week and I just wanted a win.

“We weren’t at our best but we got the two points so I’m very happy, especially with all the disruption and the changes I made. It was a good day’s work.”

Captain Sean O’Loughlin led the way with two tries, while John Bateman and Dom Manfredi both scored their first tries for the club.
