Wane eager to go on winning run

Shaun Wane has challenged Wigan to go on a winning run as the race to qualify the Super 8s reaches its climax.

The Warriors head into Friday’s game at Huddersfield in eighth place, three points ahead of Catalan, and Wane is desperate to see his team build some momentum over the next few weeks.

“We need to make sure our defence is spot on and if we do that we’ll give ourselves a chance to win – I know that if they see the best of us we can be a real test for Huddersfield,” he said.

“I want to win our next five games and go into the semi-final (against Salford) in a confident manner.

“All five games are really important. I spoke to the players about this block of games and making sure all our little bit and pieces are done and they give themselves a chance to win the games.

“We’ve had a real tough period with injuries, but the kids have come through that and they’re always going to be there for us to call on.

“I’ve got a lot stronger squad coming back and we’re going be a lot better for the period we’ve been through.

“We’ll treat each game on its own merits and make sure we can work really hard to break Huddersfield down.

“If we concentrate on that one game at a time, then whatever we get at the end of the year we’ll have deserved.”
