Wane disappointed by cup heartbreak

Wigan coach Shaun Wane was extremely disappointed with his side’s loss to Leeds on Saturday.

The Warriors lost 39-28 to Leeds in the Challenge Cup semi final in Huddersfield, missing out on the chance to make back-to-back Wembley appearances.

Wane said: “It was our worst performance. We didn’t turn up. We’ve defended all year better than that.

“But take nothing way from Leeds. They wanted it more which to me is gutting. They’ve some real warriors in their team.

“The bad start didn’t help but we made too many errors throughout the game. A few in the first half were uncharacteristic.”

Wigan are still top of the Super League, and will now look to make amends with a trip to Old Trafford.

The Warriors continue that road to the Grand Final with an away trip to London on Saturday.

Wane said: “There are two ways of responding. I’m gutted but we won’t sulk and I’m expecting real change in attitude at London next week.”
