Wales, Ireland confirm World Cup spots

Wales and Ireland have secured qualification to the 2017 World Cup with wins over Italy and Russia today.

Wales defeated Italy 20-14 in Monza.

The visitors recorded the win with tries from Andrew Gay, Anthony Walker and two to Ben Morris.

Wales fought back from 14-6 down to win the game.

Ireland thrashed Russia 70-12 in Bray.

Wales and Ireland go through to next year’s World Cup while Italy and Russia will play off for the final European place.

The two countries will meet next Friday in Leigh, with the winner qualifying.
