Wakefield coach Willie Poching has confirmed that star man David Fifita will return to the side this week following a six-match absence.

The 32-year-old has not played since their 38-22 win at Warrington on March 19 due to injury.

But Poching has confirmed the Tonga international will return to the Wakefield squad to face Huddersfield on Thursday night.

Poching said: “He will be back in there for us and he has been sorely missed. The group are excited to have him back.

“From a short time of being able to prepare and being out on the field, he has been fantastic and jumping out of his skin.

“His presence for everything, his presence in the dressing room with the character he is. He’s not one that sits back when he’s not playing and spectates.

“He will be a totally different character when he is playing again and out on the field.

“He has been back to his lively best again and he gives confidence to the group, just to have him there, to have his voice and to have him pumping again.”

Liam Hood injury blow

Wakefield hooker Liam Hood is set for a lengthy lay-off and Poching says Wakefield will do right by the Scotland international in his recovery process.

Poching added: “We knew it was going to be a substantial lay-off.

“He got a knock earlier in the season and being the tough character he is he tried to soldier through but it was too much for him. We’ve got to try and do the right thing by him and for us long-term too.”

Sky Sports Mix will show Fifita’s return when Wakefield Trinity take on Huddersfield Giants at Belle Vue on Thursday night, 8pm kick-off.
