Wakefield has defeated Leeds 14-6 in the Boxing Day friendly at Headingley.

The Wildcats got the new season off to a great start with a two try to one win in rainy conditions.

Anthony England and Scott Anderson crossed for Trinity, who took a 6-0 lead into half-time. A Michael Sio offload set up the first try and Anderson’s four-pointer came off a grubber kick.

Rhinos forward Carl Ablett scored in the second half for the home team’s only try in front of 10,919 fans.

New Leeds signing Beau Fallon was taken off in the second period after two heavy knocks. The Australian hooker also had a try disallowed.

Wakefield winger Tom Johnston was sin-binned in the first half for trying to slow down a Rhinos’ attack.

Wildcats halfback Liam Finn was named man of the match.
