Wakefield smash sorry Wigan

Wakefield have recorded their fourth win in a row with a 62-0 annihilation of Wigan at Belle Vue.

It was Wigan’s heaviest Super League defeat in years.

Wakefield started strongly, Nick Scruton getting the opening try after 11 minutes. The Wildcats took a 22-0 lead into half-time.

Jacob Miller scored a hat-trick while Danny Kirmond and Scruton each grabbed doubles. Wigan had 10 players out and fielded two debutants.

For the Widlcats the honeymoon under new coach Chris Chester rolls on.

Warriors coach Shaun Wane admitted he didn’t see the thrashing coming.

“I didn’t see that score coming,” he said.

“They were playing well and we were up against it but I still didn’t expect that. I’m not stressed. I know what we have. Where we’re at and what we’ve been through.

“I love the fact so many Wigan fans stayed behind after the game. They appreciate the situation we’re in.

I don’t want to take anything away from them [Wakefield]. They were outstanding in attack.”
