Wakefield have signed one of the area’s top young prop forwards Ben Gledhill on a two-year, full-time contract.

The former England Under-18 international played for Westgate Redoubt Amateur Rugby League Club before signing for the Castleford Tigers as a 17-year-old.

Gledhill, 20, joined the Wildcats on a part-time professional basis during the winter but, having successfully demonstrated to Wakefield that he is a player with real Super League potential, he has been given a full-time contract and allocated the squad number 31 by the Wildcats.

Head Coach John Kear said: “This club is always in the market for top quality young players and Ben certainly falls into that category.

“He did well during the pre-season training programme and in the trial games so we’re delighted to bring him to Wildcats where he will become an important part of our full-time squad who will contest Engage Super League XV.”

Ben, who comes from Horbury, said: “I’m delighted to be given this opportunity by my home-town club.”
