Wakefield have promoted academy star Tyron Travis to the first team on a one-year deal.

The 19-year-old joined Trinity’s academy two years ago alongside Luke Hooley.

He has had a difficult start his time at the Mobile Rocket Stadium so far with injuries, but Wakefield have noticed his potential and have offered him a one-year contract to test himself with the first team.

Travis is delighted to sign his first ever professional deal.

He said: “It is a dream come true to sign a professional contract in Rugby League.

“I am extremely proud and understand that I have a lot of hard work in front of me.

“I am fully focused on my rehabilitation, so I can show Chris Chester and his team what I can do and cannot wait to get started next season.”

Wakefield head of youth Mark Applegarth thinks he could eventually become a first team regular.

He said: “Tyron was first brought to the club by my predecessor and caught everybody’s eye with his physical strength and direct carries, unfortunately for Tyron his knees need some rehabilitation due to tendonitis which he has suffered from before he joined.

“This contract will give Tyron some piece of mind and allow him to fully focus on getting his knees 100% and not rushing back to earn himself a contract for next year.

“The main thing is obviously a player’s health, so we will be rigorous in his rehab and then when he is 100% ready it will allow Tyron to move forward giving himself the best chance possible of becoming a first team regular.”
