Wakefield has tied up talented winger Tom Johnstone with a new contract for the next four years.

The 20-year old, who scored nine tries in 13 Super League games in 2015, has agreed to a deal with the Wildcats until 2019.

Johnstone came through Wakefield’s academy and has represented England at Under-19 level.

The flyer, who was born in Germany, spent time at Featherstone on loan this year before making his Super League debut with the Wildcats.

Johnstone said he was thrilled to have signed a new deal with the club.

“I am excited to keep on developing under such an experienced coach such as Brian,” he said in a statement.

“I love the way the club is moving forward and I cannot wait to be a part of that for another four years.”

Wakefield chairman Michael Carter said he hopes to see Johnstone playing for the Wildcats for the next decade.

“I am delighted that he has signed for the next four years,” he said in a statement.

“Tom has come through the Academy program and has established himself as a member of  the first team squad.

“I am happy that he’s committed to us for the next four years. I have already turned down offers from other clubs for Tom.

“Tom is one that I would like to see playing here for the next 10 years.”
