Wakefield hopeful over Wigan friendly

Wakefield Trinity Wildcats have confirmed that, unless there is a further significant deterioration in the current weather conditions that their planned pre-season friendly fixture against Wigan Warriors at the Hearwell Stadium on Sunday will be played.

The planned kick off time has been changed from 3.30pm to 2.00pm and both the east and west terraces at the Hearwell Stadium will be open to the fans.

Diane Maskill, the Wildcats’ Executive Director, said: “We will be charging the same admission price £14 and £7 no matter whether spectators choose to stand or sit down.

“The ground staff are working hard to prepare the Hearwell Stadium pitch and, at the moment, we’re confident that the game will go ahead.

“We will, of course, keep the fans fully informed but, unless there’s a dramatic change for the worse in the weather, there will be some Rugby League action at the Hearwell Stadium on Sunday.”

The Wildcats are also appealing for any volunteers that may be able to assist the ground staff help prepare the pitch and the stadium for the game to come forward.

Added Maskill: “The sheer volume of snow that has fallen on the stadium and Wakefield during the last few weeks has left our Groundsman Steve Dutton and the Wildcat Working Party with a great deal of work to undertake and they’ll need some help.

“If anybody is prepared to put themselves forward to assist them next Saturday and Sunday it would be appreciated by the club. We will announce more details in the next few days.”

The Wildcat Working Party are a hard-working, dedicated group of volunteers who help the club throughout the season and their efforts in assisting prepare Hearwell for this game cannot go unrecognised. Maskill added: “Everyone at the club offers their thanks to Party for all their hard work.”
