Wakefield fined for racist chants

Wakefield Wildcats have been fined £20,000 for racial chanting by their fans in the Middle 8s last year.

Wakefield was found guilty by an independent tribunal of breaches of RFL operational rules following crowd misconduct during their match against Bradford at Belle Vue last August.

Half of the fine has been suspended until the end of the 2016 season.

The tribunal also ordered the club to pay a £1,000 fine which was suspended following a previous incident of misconduct when two smoke canisters were thrown during their fixture at Castleford last season.

The tribunal gave credit to the Wildcats for the steps taken after that game to address the issue but felt the sanction should reflect the serious nature of the incidents.
