Wakefield confirm Williams signing

Wakefield have confirmed the signing of Australian halfback Sam Williams on a one-year deal.

Wakefield’s interest in Williams was reported by Love Rugby League several weeks ago.

Williams will depart the Canberra Raiders to join Trinity for 2017.

The Australian has had previous experience in the Super League after making 10 appearances for the Catalans Dragons in 2014.

“I am very excited to join Wakefield, and it is a family club with such a close knit community,” the 25-year old said.

“I’m looking forward to being able to work with Chris Chester, I have heard good things from Josh Hodgson on his coaching and I am now excited to be a part of it and am looking forward to what the future holds.”

Head Coach Chris Chester said: “Sam Williams is a great signing for the club and a big coup.

“A number of Super League clubs were chasing his signature and I am delighted that he has chosen to play at Wakefield.

“I would like to thank Ricky Stuart and the Canberra Raiders for helping us make the signing happen.

“Sam will bring a wealth of experience and a good kicking game along with being a good leader on and off the field.”
