Warrington fell to their fifth straight defeat as Daryl Powell’s side lost 30-24 away at Wakefield Trinity in Super League.

The visitors went ahead four times at Belle Vue but the home side pegged them back on each occasion and finally took the lead for the first time with three minutes left.

That came through a try from Kelepi Tanginoa, which was converted by Mason Lino to see Wakefield home.

The result lifted Trinity six points clear of bottom side Toulouse, while Warrington have now lost five matches in a row.

Match report

Warrington scored the first points of the match in the 14th minute after withstanding early pressure, Daryl Clark finding a gap to cross for a try that was converted by Stefan Ratchford.

It did not take Wakefield long to pull level, though, James Batchelor capitalising in the 19th minute after Warrington failed to deal with Lino’s high kick.

Lino kicked the extras but Warrington went back in front in the 34th minute thanks to a timely break from Gareth Widdop, Ratchford converting once more.

Again Wakefield hit back quickly, this time Matty Ashurst seizing on Jacob Miller’s pass to score the fourth try of the game, and Lino converted to make it 12-12 at the break.

The pattern continued after half-time as Connor Wrench grabbed a third try for Warrington and Ratchford converted, but three minutes later Batchelor touched down for his second score of the game and Lino restored parity for a third time.

Warrington’s fourth score came from an interception, Matty Ashton sprinting away in the 63rd minute, and Ratchford maintained his perfect record with the boot.

Again they could not hold onto their lead for long, though, with Liam Hood crossing for Wakefield in the 70th minute and Lino drawing the scores level once again.

And this time the home side were able to break the mould and secure victory for themselves thanks to Tanginoa’s try and a fifth conversion from Lino.
