Wakefield 10-20 Crusaders

Gareth Thomas scored his first try in rugby league as Crusaders picked up a 20-10 win away at Wakefield.

Crusaders fielded a clutch of recent new signings, with Clinton Schifcofske and Rhys Hanbury joining Thomas, playing just his fourth game of league, in the line-up.

The visitors took the lead when Thomas finished a slick handling move in the corner, but the Wildcats took the lead when Paul Cooke converted Damien Blanch‘s try.

Michael Witt put the Crusaders back in the front with a fine individual score after retrieving Cooke’s grubber kick but Luke George‘s try tied things up at half time.

A scrappy second stanza ensued, but first blood went to Brian Noble’s side and it proved pivotal, with Nick Youngquest‘s score, and a late try from Vince Mellars, proving too much for Wakefield.
