VIDEO: Roosters roll over St Helens

The Sydney Roosters have won the first game of the World Club Series, easily seeing off St Helens 38-12 at Langtree Park.

It was a tough night for Saints with the Roosters dominating virtually the full 80 minutes.

The Roosters’ Kane Evans got the first try, barging over on 14 minutes. Evans’ opportunity was set up by a barnstorming run from Latrell Mitchell.

Aiden Guerra got the second six minutes later, picking up a rebounded kick.

Jackson Hastings nailed the conversion to take the score to 10-0.

Soon they were in again, Blake Ferguson finishing off a nice move and interchange of passes. The Roosters were cruising.

And then Daley Copley got the fourth try, crossing after Jayden Nikorima’s break.

At half-time the Roosters were dominant at 22-0 and Saints were shell-shocked.

But right after the break St Helens got a lifeline. Ferguson dropped a high bomb and Dominique Peyroux dived on it to score.

But the Saints fight back didn’t last long, Nikorima then setting up Shaun Kenny-Dowall with a dummy and a pass into space.

After 51 minutes the Roosters had the game well and truly won at 28-6.

Soon they were in again, the Nikorima and Guerra show cutting St Helens to shreds. It was just too easy for the NRL side.

On 61 minutes Dylan Napa was sin-binned for a high-shot on Adam Swift.

Peyroux then got his brace, stepping inside to find some space out wide. His second try cut the score to 34-12.

Worryingly for the home team, Alex Walmsley seemed to pick up an injury and was forced off.

They were a man down but that didn’t stop the Roosters from scoring. Daniel Tupou intercepted Atelea Vea‘s wayward offload and ran 80 metres to score, taking the final score to 38-12.

A difficult night for St Helens and Super League.
