Vickery close to earning Leeds deal

Australian trialist Joe Vickery is set to land a deal with Leeds after scoring twice in their Boxing Day friendly win over Wakefield.

Vickery, 23, joined the club from Gold Coast Titans for pre-season, having seen a proposed move to Hull fall-through last year.

He started on the wing for the Rhinos on Wednesday, before switching to full-back later in the game.

Coach Brian McDermott said: “That’s put him in a strong position.

“You can’t be signing blokes on how they train but he has done everything asked of him so we were leaning that way anyway.

“That’s now put him in good shape for when the decision comes.”
