Veivers pleased with Reds improvement

Salford head coach Phil Veivers was pleased with his side’s performance as they were narrowly beaten by Wigan in a pre-season friendly on Tuesday night.

In the third game at their new Salford City Stadium, the Reds were beaten 16-10 by the Challenge Cup holders, who fielded a strong side.

It represented further gradual improvement for the Reds, following on from last week’s 46-16 win over Halifax which had followed a disappointing defeat to Leigh earlier in the month.

Veivers told the club’s official website: “We upped the ante on last week’s game again.

“We spoke about pride in our performance before the game and we kept reiterating that trial games are supposed to test us. We have changed structures throughout the Club which takes a while and I don’t think we will be the complete article until Round Six or so.”

Salford kick-start their Super League season with a home clash against Castleford in front of the SKY TV cameras on February 4th, before travelling to St Helens and Widnes for back-to-back away games.
