Utai extends Tigers stay

Former Canterbury winger Matt Utai has agreed a new one-year deal with Wests Tigers.

New Zealand born-Utai, 30, has made 20 appearances for the Tigers since joining last season, scoring six tries.

The Former Dally M Rookie of the Year’s career looked to have run out of steam after failing to secure a move to Super League with Crusaders in 2010 due to injury.

But after resurrecting his career with junior side Auburn Warriors, Utai was signed by coach Tim Sheens as back up for Lote Tuqiri.

Wests Tigers Recruitment Manager Warren McDonnell said: “We are very pleased that Matt will be in the Wests Tigers jersey again in 2012.”
