UAE RL boss arrested in bitter code battle

RUGBY league players in the United Arab Emirates have been told the league president Sol Mokdad has been arrested as part of a rugby union campaign to have the 13-man game shut down.

A letter to players of the Sharks club, confirming the arrest, has been obtained by rugbyleaguehub.com. UAE Rugby had earlier threatened legal action if the rival code continued to use the word “rugby” to promote itself.

Sources say the official charges are fraud – pretending to be rugby union and accepting sponsorship from Nissan under false pretenses. The charges have been brought by UAE Rugby.
