Leigh have signed Ireland international Tyrone McCarthy for the 2021 Super League season.

The 31-year-old back-rower or loose forward has made more than 250 career appearances for Warrington, Leigh (loan), Wakefield (loan), Swinton (loan), Northern Pride, Hull KR, St George Illawarra Dragons and Salford. He has earned 19 caps for Ireland.

Leigh coach John Duffy said: “As a young player coming through, Tyrone always stood out as someone who was likely to play a lot of games at the top level and so it proved.

“He’s got great leadership qualities and I will be looking for our players to match his high standards on and off the pitch.

“Tyrone is a durable, hard working player who will fit straight into our group. He’s a top lad, a great professional and an excellent addition to our squad.”

McCarthy, who will be hoping to represent Ireland at his third World Cup later this year, is a two-time Challenge Cup winner.
