Two amateur players have been banned from rugby league for life after assaulting a match official.

Golborne Parkside players Sean Evans and Dale Else were found guilty of the offence during an under-18s match against Chorley Panthers.

Both were tried and convicted of assault in the Magistrates Court following the attack on a 19-year-old referee.

An RFL statement said: “Sean Evans and Dale Else were deemed to be in breach of RFL Operational Rules D1.8 (a), (b) and (c); Operational Rules D1.10 (l), (m) and (q) and the RFL’s Respect, Tackle It and Safeguarding policies.

“The RFL Operational Rules Tribunal also ruled that the Permanent Suspension Orders on Evans and Else should not be reviewed for five years.”
