Troops get free Magic Weekend tickets

The RFL are pleased to announce that they have shown their support to the Armed Forces Ticket for Troops campaign by donating 2,000 free tickets for the Millennium Magic Weekend next month.

The Magic Weekend will see all 14 Super League clubs in action at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium on February 12/13 and the tickets will be made available to serving members of the Armed Forces as well as veterans who have been medically discharged since 2001.

“We’re delighted to take this opportunity to show our support for our country’s troops,” said RFL Director of Marketing & Communications, Andy Hewitt. “The Armed Forces put their lives on the line on a daily basis to help protect the safety of everyone in this country and we are keen to support them in any capacity we can.

“The Magic Weekend will be an action packed start to the 2011 Engage Super League campaign and it is an honour for everyone involved at the RFL to donate these tickets.”

Tickets for Troops have teamed up with a wide range of organisations offering our troops free tickets to enjoy an afternoon, evening or full day experience at many high profile events. Recently, these events have included The English National Ballet, The Masters Snooker and tickets to Premier League matches.

Raleigh Addington, Operations Director of Tickets for Troops, commented “It is a massive morale boost for all the troops to have the RFL show their support for the commitment and dedication of our troops in this way.

“We’ve already seen a huge level of demand for the tickets and we’re delighted with the response we’ve had. We are really looking forward to working further with the RFL in the future and are grateful for their support during this tough economic climate.”

The Tickets for Troops charity was set up just over a year ago to provide members of the Armed Forces with free tickets for major sporting events including football, horse racing, rugby, darts and cricket matches as well as theatre performances, music concerts and cultural attractions. Since launching it has provided over 250,000 tickets and almost 85,000 troops have registered on the website – www.ticketsfortroops.org.uk

Troops are encouraged to go online and register at www.ticketsfortroops.org.uk to take advantage of the fantastic tickets available for our Armed Forces.

Day tickets for Millennium Magic cost from £25 (concessions £12.50) with weekend passes starting from £35 (concessions £17.50). Ticket and accommodation details for Millennium Magic are available at www.millenniummagic.co.uk or by contacting the RFL Ticket Office on 0844 856 1113.
