Town looking for second spot finish

Neil Fraser and Ryan MacDonald are set to return to the Workington squad as Town go into the final weekend of regular league season chasing a second-placed finish.

Joint coach Gary Charlton said: “We’ve got to hope Whitehaven will do a job for us (at Keighley), but we also know we’ve also got our own tough game against Oldham.

“If we play like we have been doing then we could come away with the points, but Oldham are a good team across the field. They’ll be hard to beat – they’ve got big forwards, good backs, and we know it’s going to be a hard game.”

Luke Stenchion (back), Ben Heaton (ankle) and Mark McCully (knee) are all doubtful for Oldham.

Roughyeds coach Tony Benson said: “Those three are still up in the air, but we’ll give them as much chance as we can to prove their fitness.”

He added: “Workington have got a lot to play for this weekend, and it’s always a difficult place to go no matter what the circumstances.

“We’re trying to go into the play-offs with consistency and form, so we’ll be doing everything we can to get a decent performance on Sunday.”
