Toulouse Olympique have confirmed the signing of Sitaleki Akauola from Salford on a two-year deal ahead of the 2023 Championship campaign.

The 30-year-old makes the switch after just one season at the AJ Bell Stadium.

Akauola has registered 78 appearances in Super League, having initially joined Warrington ahead of the 2018 season.

He made his debut with Wests Tigers in 2013, and also featured for Penrith Panthers. The prop forward also won a single cap for Tonga, dating back to 2014.

In 2022, he made 19 appearances for the Red Devils under Paul Rowley, being a part of the team that made the Super League semi-finals.

Akauola said: “My family and I are very excited and blessed with this new journey ahead.

“We’re looking forward to getting over and meeting the coaching staff, the team behind the scenes that make everything happen and the new group of boys I get to take the field with.

“I can’t wait to get over and stuck in ready for a big year.”

Toulouse chairman Bernard Sarrazain added: “He is an excellent recruit. I think any ambitious team would want to play with Sitaleki in their ranks.

“He brings a lot of power and experience that will benefit the team. I would like to thank the Salford management for allowing Sita to join us.”

Toulouse’s return to the second division sees them travel to Barrow in their first game on February 4 in the Championship.
