Toulouse aim to end on a high

Toulouse Olympique cannot qualify for this year’s Co-operative Championship play-offs, but Gilles Dumas’ men will still hope to celebrate news of the decisions by Sebastian Planas and Constant Villegas to extend their contracts by a further year.

However, Toulouse will need to improve from last week’s 38-16 mauling at Leigh.

Dumas said: “We have a young team. We’ll still work to improve season after season, but this year I’m a bit disappointed because we fixed a goal at the start of the season to be in the play-offs.”

Martin Mitchell (ankle) will not play for the Frenchmen. Cedric Gay and Vincent Duport, who both missed last week’s match, will be assessed before Dumas finalises his line up.

Sam Barlow (suspension) is missing for Halifax, but coach Matt Calland is hopeful that Said Tamghart can return to action.

Calland said: “We’re struggling for bodies – we only had 18 fit to play Batley. We lost (Jon) Goddard and (Bob) Beswick on Sunday, so we won’t have the opportunity to rest anybody really. We’re not having much luck this year.

“It’s been a really unlucky year, but you’ve got to take your hat off to the players because we’re still managing to scrape results.”
