Toronto Wolfpack in much stronger position for Super League spot

Toronto full-back Gareth O’Brien says the time is right for the club to earn promotion to Super League.

The Wolfpack suffered a shock defeat at home to London Broncos in last year’s Million Pound Game, and this year must win through the Championship play-offs for promotion.

Their first play-off game sees Toulouse visit Lamport Stadium this Sunday, with the winner going straight through to the Grand Final.

O’Brien told the club’s official website: “We got the League Leader’s Shield which is a big achievement but our main focus is on the Playoffs and promotion to the Super League, that’s what we set out to achieve.

“There’s hard work to do between now and then but we are ready to go. We’re very proud of what we’ve achieved so far but our job’s not done.

“The Million Pound Game wasn’t meant to be; London deserved the win. It was a blessing in disguise.

“It might have been a bit too early to go up last year, we are in a much stronger position this year I think with the right people in the right positions at the Club.”

O’Brien has scored 22 tries this season and is one of three Wolfpack players shortlisted for the Championship Player of the Year award.

Toronto have won 26 of their 27 fixtures this term, including their last 20 in a row, suffering defeat only once – away at Toulouse in March.
