Toronto hunt for new players

The Toronto Wolfpack are offering open try out sessions across North America as it readies its team to play in League 1 next year.

The Wolfpack say they are “seeking to give opportunities to North American athletes who, by their nature, have the ideal mental, athletic and skills make-up to be world class”.

Toronto will hold try outs in seven cities across North America starting in August in Vancouver and visiting Detroit, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Boston, Montreal and completing the tour at home field in Toronto in mid-October.

The whole tour and the search will be filmed in a “docuseries” called Last Tackle to be aired later in the year.

Toronto Wolfpack Director Adam Fogerty said: “We are fully aware of the fantastic sporting talent in both Canada and the USA and we have this opportunity to give some athletes a break in professional sport.

“We also expect competition for places from European and Australasian athletes who will travel in to take part in the tour and try to secure a contract.

“I would encourage the young sportsmen of America to seriously consider trying out for the Wolfpack, all you have to do is visit the website, read the details and sign up – it’s that simple.”

“I was fortunate enough to play professional Rugby League and I can say from experience that it is one of the most exciting and fulfilling sports around.

“It is athletic, intelligent and immensely challenging – not everyone has what it takes but those that do can really excel very quickly.”
