Toronto and Featherstone both approved for promotion by Super League

Super League has confirmed that the winner of the Championship Grand Final between Toronto and Featherstone will be promoted to the top flight for 2020.

Doubts had been raised over the Wolfpack in recent weeks, with Super League chief executive Robert Elstone claiming they hadn’t yet satisfied a number of criteria put to them.

But in a statement, Super League said: “Betfred Super League wishes to confirm its position on the potential promotion of Toronto Wolfpack or Featherstone Rovers ahead of Saturday’s Betfred Championship Grand Final.

“The winners of the Million Pound Game will be welcomed into Betfred Super League, as approved by the governing body, the RFL.

“Promotion is sanctioned by the RFL who have confirmed that both clubs have met all the relevant criteria.”

Featherstone’s LD Nutrition Stadium home has a capacity of just under 6,000, including 5,000 seats, with scope to increase that to 7,000 if necessary.

Their GM, Davide Longo, said: “We only really fail on floodlights and I started some dialogue a month ago with a company about installing some new lights. It’s not that big a deal. The rest of the stadium is fit for purpose.”

The pair go head to head for promotion at Toronto’s Lamport Stadium on Saturday night, live on Sky Sports, at 7.30pm.
