Tookey spent three years in Super League, and is believed to have turned down a lucrative deal to stay in England to return down under with his young family.

The 29-year-old made ten appearances for the Tigers as they were relegated in 2004, before moving south to London Broncos and spending his final year with the re-named Harlequins RL.

Tookey made his NRL debut for South Queensland Crushers in 1996 and also enjoyed stints at Parramatta Eels and New Zealand Warriors, were he was part of the team that reached the Grand Final.

The Dolphins have also been rocked by the retirement of goal-kicking centre Greg Bourke, who became the Queensland Cup’s highest ever points scorer following his retirement from the NRL
