Experienced outside back Tommy Saxton has signed a new one-year deal with York City Knights.

Saxton, 34, has previously played for Hull, Halifax and Featherstone and has been with York since May 2016.

He has featured in all three of York’s pre-season games this year as a triallist.

Coach James Ford said: “Tommy wanted another season and we wanted that too. He brings a lot to us on game day and he’s well-liked by the group and the staff. But we just wanted to make sure both parties were making the right decision.

“We chose not to rush into anything out of respect for him.

“I’m really pleased we have him for another season. He’s had a superb career playing for excellent clubs at outstanding levels, the younger lads in the group will learn a lot from him.”

Saxton scored two tries in 14 appearances for the City Knights in 2017.
