St Helens’ England winger Tommy Makinson has been handed a three-match ban following his dismissal during his side’s 20-10 home defeat by Castleford.

Makinson was shown a red card for a high tackle on full-back Niall Evalds and it was ruled to be a Grade C offence by the Rugby Football League’s match review panel.

He will start his ban when Saints visit Wigan in Friday’s Super League derby at the DW Stadium. He will also miss their upcoming matches against Leigh and Warrington.

Salford centre Matthew Costello and Leeds second-rower Rhyse Martin were both given one-match bans for Grade B dangerous tackles.

Costello will miss Sunday’s match at Leigh whilst Martin will miss Thursday night’s clash with Huddersfield.
