Wigan second-rower Joel Tomkins is set to make the switch from rugby league to rugby union by signing for Saracens RU on a much improved salary deal.

The Wigan second rower was left out of Steve McNamara’s 24-man England squad which was announced earlier today, with the England Coach stating it was due to personal reasons.

However it is believed that the 24-year-old is set to make a switch to rugby union and join the Saracens club on a deal which is reported to see his salary go from £80,000 to £400,000.

Joel Tomkins, scorer of one of the best Challenge Cup Final tries in Wigan’s win over Leeds this year, along with his brother Sam, are currently leading lights in the Super League and many wonder whether Sam will follow in his footsteps.

An announcement regarding this matter is expected shortly.
