Tomkins brothers handed match bans

Wigan will be without brothers Sam and Joel Tomkins for their sides’ match against Huddersfield on Friday.

Joel Tomkins has received a two match ban and a £300 fine after being sent off for striking Kirk Yeaman during his team’s 14-12 win over Hull FC on Sunday.

Sam Tomkins has been suspended for one game and also fined £300 for running in and punching during the brawl that resulted in his brother’s sending off.

The news will come as a blow to coach Michael Maguire, who led Wigan to Grand Final victory last season with the two brothers being ever present throughout the 2010 season.

However Joel Tomkins will also miss his sides’ home game against Warrington, as a result of his two match ban, a week on Friday. Tomkins had previously not missed a Wigan match since April 2009.

Kirk Yeaman will also face suspension after being cited in the same brawl. He has been handed a one match ban and a £300 fine by the Rugby Football League disciplinary committee. He will sit out his sides’ home visit of Wakefield this Friday.

However Lee Radford has escaped suspension despite being found guilty of making dangerous contact with Thomas Leuluai in the same match. He was fined £300 but escaped suspension due to his exceptional disciplinary record.
