Salford’s new half back Todd Carney arrived in the UK at the weekend, after signing for the club in January.

He is familiarising himself with his new surroundings, and has enjoyed training with his Red Devils team mates.

“The boys have made me feel really welcome and the club has been really good,” he said.

“I arrived on Sunday morning so I’m still just getting the feel of the place, but trainings been good.

“My bags have been packed since we first came to a deal, and I’m definitely excited and looking forward to a new challenge.”

Carney’s obtaining of a visa toook slightly longer than anticipated, but he is looking forward to getting stuck in with Salford, having spent time with Catalans Dragons recently.

“Salford have always been physical,” said the former Kangarood and New South Wales player, who will wear the number 99 at his new club.

“They’ve always been hard to play here at home, and when I was at Catalans it was always a difficult encounter there, and I like the style of rugby they’ve played.

“I’m looking forward to re-grouping with a few players I’ve played with in the NRL, like Dobbo (Michael Dobson), Justin Carney and Junior Sa’u.

“It’s going to take time for me to fit in and to find a place in the team, but I’m looking forward to that challenge and to chucking the Red Devils shirt on.

“I wasn’t here for the pre-season, but when you look around the room and see the goals that we’ve set, I’m confident that I can help them achieve that.”
