Tipping Super League: James v Swinton Lions chairman Andy Mazey

James Gordon

A week off last week with there being only two Super League games, but James is back this week to take on a new opponent.

For the second successive week, it was a 5-3 win – this time against ex-Cronulla Sharks CEO Damian Irvine.

Andy Mazey is the chairman of Championship club Swinton Lions, and helped the club ensure survival – both on and off the pitch – at the end of last season. He is now spearheading the club’s charge forward. Away from rugby, Mazey is Managing Director of SR Waite Group.

Swinton will host Toronto Wolfpack next Sunday, March 4, and have already started a marketing campaign around the match. They are also doing a promotion for Super League season ticket holders.

Huddersfield v St Helens (Friday)

Andy: “Not much to say about this one, fancy a St Helens win.”

James: “It largely depends on which Huddersfield turns up, but got this one down as a Saints victory.”

James – St Helens by 10 / Andy – St Helens by 8

Salford v Hull KR (Friday)

Andy: “Close one, but fancy Salford to get off the mark and Robert Lui to score the winner!”

James: “It’s not quite a must win for Salford, but if they don’t win this one, then they will be concerned about the season ahead. Hull KR haven’t done too badly at all in the last two weeks following their baptism of fire at home to Wakefield.”

James – Hull KR by 8 / Andy – Salford by 6

Warrington v Wigan (Friday)

Andy: “Wigan should win this one, if fully recovered from jet lag that is!”

James: “Warrington, despite winning, were no better last week than they had been in the opening two rounds. Their on-line defence is relatively solid, but they are struggling to score points and conceding a lot of tries off kicks.”

James – Wigan by 7 / Andy – Wigan by 10

Castleford v Hull (Saturday)

Andy: “Away win for Hull, but only if again jet lag is not a contributing factor!”

James: “The week off perhaps helped Castleford after a wobbly start against St Helens and Widnes. Can they finally put the Hardaker distractions behind them and get back to the form they showed last season?”

James – Hull by 6 / Andy – Hull by 12

Catalans v Wakefield (Saturday)

Andy: “Going to go for the Dragons here, by a fine margin of two points.”

James: “These two could hardly be more polar opposite at the moment. Wakefield are on the verge of turning in to serious top four contenders, while the Dragons don’t seem able to reverse their downturn in fortunes.”

James – Wakefield by 7 / Andy – Catalans by 2

Widnes v Leeds (Sunday)

Andy: “Going for a surprise home victory as I think Widnes will be up for it while Leeds heads may just be down after the World Club Challenge defeat Down Under.”

James: “Widnes have won their last two home games against Leeds and do have a decent record in Super League against the Rhinos at the Halton Stadium. Tough one to call, but think Leeds will get back on the horse.”

James – Leeds by 12 / Andy – Widnes by 6
