Tim Sheens tells Hull KR players: “If I’m not there Thursday, I’ve been sacked”

A baffled Tim Sheens addressed his players regarding speculation about his future on Tuesday.

Sheens, 68, is expected to depart the club at the end of the season but there have been strong reports that he would be sacked as early as this week as the Robins’ relegation worries heighten.

A source told us that the Australian held a team meeting as usual on Tuesday morning and told his players that he didn’t know where the story had come from.

He was due to meet with chairman Neil Hudgell on Wednesday night, and had told players that if he wasn’t there on Thursday morning, he’s been sacked.

Rovers host Wigan and Warrington on the next two weekends, before a potentially pivotal trip to bottom-side London Broncos the following Thursday.

Super League sponsors Betfred are no longer taking bets on Hull KR’s next coach, with York’s James Ford the heavy favourite to take charge for 2020.
