Newcastle Knights have approached Tim Sheens over a technical director role at the club, according to reports Down Under.

Knights chief executive Philip Gardner and football director Brian Canavan called Sheens on Monday night, according to The Sydney Morning Herald.

Sheens is still based in England, despite being sacked by Hull KR in early June.

Newcastle have appointed Sydney Roosters assistant Adam O’Brien as the club’s head coach from 2020, with reports suggesting Newcastle are hoping to bring in Sheens in a technical director role.

Gardner told The Sydney Morning Herald: “BC [Canavan] and I rang Tim Sheens yesterday [Monday].

“He still has contractual obligations in England.

“But he would be happy to have a conversation with us. That will be a decision of the head coach [O’Brien].”
