Salford owner Dr Marwan Koukash has confirmed that his club have appointed Tom Sheens as director of rugby.

Speaking at the club’s much-hyped press conference on Tuesday, Koukash revealed the appointment to the press and public.

He also insisted that the appointment would not affect current head coach Iestyn Harris, while Bobbie Goulding will have to wait until Sheens arrives to see what role he will be handed at the club.

“I would like to confirm that the club have confirmed Tim Sheens as the director of rugby,” he said.

“Iestyn Harris is still the head coach. He has worked with Tim Sheens before and Tim’s appointment has no bearing on Harris’s position.

“Bobbie Goulding has not been offered a job. Once Tim is on board, I’d like to see how he could be utilised at the club.”

Koukash also made a point of answering some of the criticisms which have been aimed at the club in recent weeks.

He particularly addressed the rumours which have been speculating about a supposedly precarious financial situation at the club.

“The last few weeks have been tough for me having to read so much s*** in the papers,” he said.

“I want to make clear for absolutely everybody here, since I have been players have always been paid, and if not on time then early.

“If anything we have paid player’s early. This month for example all staff here at the club have been paid 12 days early.

“My responsibility as the owner is to pay player’s. How they manage their finances is their own responsibility.”
