Castleford has defeated rival neighbours Featherstone 42-28 in a heated festive friendly at the Jungle.

Ben Crooks, Ryan Hampshire, Greg Minikin and Joel Monaghan all scored on debut for the Tigers, while Darrell Griffin and Mike McMeeken were sin-binned after exchanging punches in the 16th minute.

Castleford took a commanding 30-0 lead into the break with the four debutants all crossing for tries.

The Tigers extended their lead just after half-time with Ashley Robson scoring from a brilliant individual effort.

At 36-0 the match was effectively over when Sam Day got Featherstone’s first try.

McMeeken got the next four-pointer with a powerful run and Rovers then added scores through an Anthony Thackeray intercept and a Colton Roche try.

Kyran Johnson got a double in the final 12 minutes to make the scoreline more respectable for the Championship side.

It finished up as a 14-point win for Castleford with 5,274 fans in attendance at the Jungle.
