Castleford Chief Executive Richard Wright says the fans were “outstanding” as he and club Captain Ryan Hudson handed in a detailed planning application to Wakefield MDC.

The occasion was significant milestone in the club’s quest to secure the go-ahead for a new stadium at Glasshoughton and a large number of supporters made the short trip to the Wakefield MDC Planning Offices at Newton Bar to celebrate.

Wright said: “I didn’t really think about the emotions of the occasion until I arrived at the Planning Offices and saw a mass of black and amber.

“The fans showed up in numbers. With hindsight I wouldn’t expect it any other way.

“Thursday was a fantastic Christmas present for everybody and it underlines how serious we are in delivering a cost effective new stadium that will provide the platform needed for the club to challenge the bigger sides in Super League on a more consistent basis.”

“The supporters were outstanding. They sent a clear picture to the media just what this club means to the people it represents and how much of an asset we are to Super League.”
