Castleford Tigers have named Andrew Henderson as their captain for the forthcoming season. The Australian developed but Torquay born hooker led the Tigers in their successful 2005 National League campaign.

Last year in Super League, the job was given to the experienced Danny Nutley, but Andrew was one of a number of strong options that coach Terry Matterson had for the role this season.

Henderson joined the Tigers in 2005 from the Balmain Tigers, although he had played in England previously with Barrow, and he has missed just one game in his two seasons at the club. And that was when, having already qualified for the knock out stages of The Northern Rail cup, then coach Dave Woods rested a number of his key players.

One of three brothers in last years Super League, Andrew has represented Scotland, the country of his father's birth, a number of times.

Coach Terry Matterson said: "Hendo did a really good job two years ago and he is a highly respected amongst the squad. His position on the field is a good one to lead from and I am confident that the captaincy won't affect his game. In fact I feel that it will enhance it."

Andrew said: "I'm very honoured to be back in the role. I thoroughly enjoyed the challenge last time around and I'm looking forward to the challenge ahead and working with the quality of people and players that we have inplace for 2007. We are very focused and confident that we can have a good campaign and have the capability to secure a return to Super League."
